My story on MallowPuffs is short, simple, a little bit sad but very true!
My son, Timothy Donkin, has just turned 6. He is a Griffins chocolate biscuit addict with MallowPuffs being his favourite. We currently purchase 5 packets of MallowPuffs a week and the rest of the family members are extremely lucky if they get the chance to eat one!
Timothy was diagnosed with the genetic condition, Cystic Fibrosis when he was just 6 weeks old and for our whole family unit, it hasn't been an easy journey coming to terms with our beautiful son and brother having a chronic and incurable condition. One factor of his condition is that his pancreatic duct is blocked so he doesn't produce any pancreatic enzymes to digest and absorb any fat content in his diet. He therefore has to take a pancreatic enzyme supplement called Creon with all fat containing food he eats and he has to have a high fat diet in order to be able to maintain his weight.
Timothy requires one Creon capsule for every 2 MallowPuffs he eats and he can administer that himself.
At school his class has a 'brainfood' snack at 9:30 each morning and while his mates grab their fruit or crackers, Timothy has an official exemption and is allowed his standard two MallowPuffs (and one enzyme)! He then repeats this with his lunch and when I pick him up from school, if he's hungry or low on energy he quite often gobbles two more on the way home in the car! When he is in hospital we even go to the extreme of allowing two MallowPuffs with his breakfast as he's not too keen on the hospital menu!
So to summarise, one of the only bonuses to having Cystic Fibrosis, is that unlike many of his friends, he is encouraged to eat as many chocolate biscuits as he likes!
When he has time, he likes to eat the bottom biscuit layer first which he nibbles slowly. He follows this by cracking the outer shell of chocolate and peels it off before eating it, which leaves him with his favourite part, the marshmallow interior which he devours with delight!
